REPORTING EMERGENCY FINANCIAL AID GRANTS TO STUDENTS

CARES ACT HIGHER EDUCATION EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND (HEERF) REPORTING EMERGENCY FINANCIAL AID GRANTS TO STUDENTS

The following information is to comply with the Department of Education’s CARES Act reporting requirements.

Report date: 10/8/2021

1. An acknowledgement that the institution signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

a. Kenny’s Academy of Barbering Inc. signed and returned the Certification and Agreement to the Department of Education on August 12, 2020.

2. The total amount of funds that the institution will receive or has received from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

a. Kenny’s Academy of Barbering Inc. received $167,889.00

3. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of the date of submission (i.e., as of the 30-day Report and every 45 days thereafter).

a. $330,720 as of September 30, 2021

4. The estimated total number of students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

a. 165 for all three Kenny’s Academy of Barbering campuses.

5. The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

6. The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act. 

Zero EFC:  Student with Zero EFC according to the FAFSA will be determined and receive disbursement first. Determination was made by the following criteria:

0 EFC and 2019 Starts – $550.00     0 EFC and 2020 Starts – $500.00
0 EFC and 2021 Starts – $400.00     3 Digit EFC – $300.00
4 Digit EFC – $200.00               5 Digit EFC & VA – $150.00

ATTENDANCE/SAP:  Students with attendance and SAP concerns will need to be counseled prior to distribution of funds.

7. Any instructions, directions, or guidance provided by the institution to students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants. 

a. An email was sent to all students on August 21, 2020. The email read as follows, “We applied for and have been awarded the CARES Act for students. This is an emergency grant for students for expenses such as, but not limited to, food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and childcare. To be eligible to apply for the grant you must be an active student, you must have a valid FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid office, you must have maintained Satisfactory Academic Progress.
